Round 2 of the NSW Electric Vehicle Destination Charging Grant is now open until August 2, 2024.

This grant, totalling $10 million for regional NSW, including Newcastle and Wollongong, supports the installation of public electric vehicle chargers with up to 75% funding provided by the NSW government. The EV chargers will be allocated to hotels, airbnbs, caravan parks and businesses in regional NSW.

EV Trends in NSW

The NSW government's Electric Vehicle Strategy forecasts significant growth in EV sales, reaching 52% of all car sales by 2031 and approaching 80% by 2036. This means the number of visitors who factor in EV charging at regional businesses is going to continue to grow rapidly in coming years.

NSW Destination EV Charging Grant Details

The grant covers up to 75% of the costs for installing eligible 7kW and/or 22kW EV chargers, installation expenses (now capped at $3000 per charging port - which is below our average installation cost), and the first year of an eligible annual EV charger software subscription. This opportunity translates to substantial savings and positions businesses for the future EV market growth.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, businesses must be in eligible regional NSW areas (including Newcastle, Wollongong, Byron Shire, Orange and many more), fall under approved destination types (such as hotel and winery, tourist attractions, restaurants and breweries, caravan parks, etc.), have no more than four existing charger ports, and be listed on the Australia Tourism Data Warehouse.
