With an EV charging system in your building, each individual EV charger huge amounts of energy for extended periods. And an unmanaged standard EV charger draws power from the grid and charges an EV’s battery at maximum charge rate until it’s full.
As a result and in our experience, only a handful of EV chargers can practically be installed within an apartment building or car park due to supply contraints and high demands of unmanaged EV Chargers . Well, imagine a system with 10 EV chargers running for long periods of time: at the same time, at maximum power. It’s costly. And the heavy burden on the electrical infrastructure could cause a blackout. Or worse - it can damage your building’s electrical infrastructure if the electrical draw is more than what’s available. Can you afford the time, effort, and cost if this happens?
Load management system (or LMS) enables the charge rates across multiple EV charging locations to be dynamically adjusted to suit the available power supply minus the consumption of everything else, obviously.
It means multiple electric vehicles can be plugged in and charged at the same time - while managing the charge rate as more or fewer vehicles are connected. If more power is needed than available, load management will re-calculate and change the power available at each charging point. This is known as dynamic load balancing or DLB or in some case Load Management System or LMS.
Load management system protects a site from being overloaded. It keeps track of power being used at peak times. On top of that, load management software maximises the number of EV chargers that can be installed at a location and optimises charging time for EV drivers.
